Introduction
Irrespective of whether a company is a manufacturing or service organization, it has a statutory obligation under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, to operate in a manner that safeguards the health and safety of its workforce.
OHSAS 18001, the occupational health and safety management system standard affords companies the opportunity to address health and safety issues within a structured management system.
This five-day course will be of interest to companies who are considering the implementation of a health and safety management system standard such as OHSAS 18001 and who wish to train their personnel in auditing to the standard.
What is an Occupational Health and Safety System?
An Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) system allows you to create a safe, secure, and well-managed workplace by:
- Identifying and minimizing hazards associated with your organization's business
- Reducing incidents, accidents, and injuries in the workplace
- Reducing risks of legal action for worker's compensation and liability claims
- Providing due diligence evidence should an incident or accident occur
Objectives
- Understand in detail the requirements of an occupational health and safety management system standard such as OHSAS 18001.
- Develop an OH&S Policy.
- Implement OHSAS 18001.
- Identify hazards and undertake a health and safety risk assessment.
- Plan and organize an internal occupational health and safety management system audit.
- Conduct internal or external audits against the criteria specified in OHSAS 18001
- Understand health and safety legislation in Ireland and the EU (including the Safety, Health, and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulation 2007).
- Review the registration and assessment process for certification to OHSAS 18001.
- Understand the concept of Integrated Management Systems (IMS).

Training Methodology
This is an interactive course. There will be open question and answer sessions, regular group exercises and activities, videos, case studies, and presentations on best practice. Participants will have the opportunity to share with the facilitator and other participants on what works well and not so well for them, as well as work on issues from their own organizations. The online course is conducted online using MS-Teams/ClickMeeting.

- Evolution of occupational health and safety management systems, BS 8800, HSG 65, OHSAS 18001/ 18002, ILO-OSH 2001.
- Developing an occupational health and safety policy.
- OHSAS 18001 clauses in detail.
- Conducting an Initial Status Review (ISR).
- Setting OHS Objectives and Targets.
DAY 2:
- The role of safety statements.
- Hazard identification, risk assessment & risk control
- Relationship between ISO 9000, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001
- Operational control and method statements
- Monitoring and measurement
- Accident and incident reporting and investigation

DAY 3:
