Cement Quality and Chemistry (Physico)

Introduction

In today’s aggressive cement market, cement companies compete for customer satisfaction, retention, and expansion of sales markets. Quality control becomes the key to sustainable financial health.  This 5-day quality and chemistry course focuses on the analysis of kiln feed and fuel chemistry, kiln operation, and clinker quality.

  • The cement quality and chemistry course offer an analysis of the relationship of kiln operation and the dependence of the raw feed and fuel Physico-chemical properties concluding with the clinker and cement quality.
  • The course will focus on the concept of burn ability and the effect on the kiln performance and product quality which directly affects production costs.
  • This tutorial includes but is not limited to methods of optimizing the kiln feed burn ability, strategies to cope with non-conforming raw meal standard deviation, kiln feed quality, clinker formation, kiln control strategies, burner settings, mineralizers, cement hydration, cement types, and applications.
  • Basics of clinker microscopy related to clinker quality and the dependence between burner settings and kiln operation are addressed. A microscopy is an important tool for analysis, optimization of process control, quality, and problem-solving.

Case studies, calculations, and basic microscopy workshops are included.

Objectives

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to Understand:

    • The relationship between raw meal chemistry, kiln operation, and clinker quality.
    • How to analyze the kiln operation behavior based on the correlation with raw feed burn ability and clinker quality.
    • Optimize kiln operation, clinker, and cement quality.
    • Understand the volatility recirculation phenomena and how they address kiln operation challenges.
    • Understand the use of mineralizers to reduce fuel consumption and lower the thermal load in the kiln.

Training Methodology

This is an interactive course. There will be open question and answer sessions, regular group exercises and activities, videos, case studies, and presentations on best practice. Participants will have the opportunity to share with the facilitator and other participants on what works well and not so well for them, as well as work on issues from their own organizations. The online course is conducted online using MS-Teams/ClickMeeting.

Who Should Attend?

The course content will be suitable for a wide range of personnel within a cement manufacturing company including junior/middle management, technicians, production and control room staff, etc. and also for others who wish to gain a comprehensive understanding of the complete cement manufacturing process.
