Introduction
A new training program that introduces managers, engineers, and technicians to the latest standards and practices in the application of safety instrumented systems and Emergency Shutdown systems for the protection of hazardous processes. The best safety systems is not the most expensive but rather it is the most practicable system; one that does not cause production losses whilst seeking to achieve a realistic level of risk reduction. This NEW workshop focuses on the management, planning, and execution of automatic safety systems in accordance with IEC 61511, the newly released standard. The increasing trend towards digital communications within the industrial plant environment has brought in its wake a myriad of problems concerned with interconnectivity and differing standards offered by a wide variety of competing vendors. For the user, it has become progressively more difficult to differentiate between the proffered options. This workshop, Data Communications, and Fieldbus Systems is designed to provide engineers and technicians with an overview of modern digital communication standards – starting at the basic RS232 standard right through to Profibus/Foundation Fieldbus and beyond.
Objectives
- An understanding of the principles of data communications
- The application of basic fault-finding techniques covering RS232 up to RS485
- An overview of the wide range of Fieldbus options
- A practical approach to the use of Modbus and the application of troubleshooting techniques
- Ability to differentiate between the use of Modbus, Modbus Plus, Asibus, DeviceNet, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus
- An overview of TCP/IP and its associated protocols
- Application of basic TCP/IP utilities
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
Training Methodology
This is an interactive course. There will be open question and answer sessions, regular group exercises and activities, videos, case studies, and presentations on best practice. Participants will have the opportunity to share with the facilitator and other participants on what works well and not so well for them, as well as work on issues from their own organizations. The online course is conducted online using MS-Teams/ClickMeeting.
