Mastering People Management and Team Leadership

Introduction

Change or be changed! This is the global mandate today. Leaders at all levels in an organization are being challenged to embrace new ideas; and to lead innovation and change. Managers are vital to these processes as they have the role and responsibility to get the work done each day through others.

Unfortunately, many managers are ill prepared for the pace of change and often are confused as to what their role is in building the capacity in their teams to successfully transform vision into reality.

Studies, conducted by internationally recognized institutions like Harvard, Stanford, and Carnegie Melon Institute, have proven that 15% of the reason why a person gets a job, keeps their job, and is successful in their job is based on technical skills. The balance (85%) is because of their people skills.

Therefore, to enhance the effectiveness of managers, this course is a unique blend of leadership and management knowledge; practical tools and technical skills; all combined with the importance of character and integrity-based decision-making. Universal principles of relationship are woven throughout the program to teach and reinforce effective people skills.

In addition there will be a heavy emphasis on capturing the benefits of working in teams as opposed to the old style hierarchies. We have come to realize that working in teams is much more effective than working with the old style bureaucratic management. This has been well demonstrated by first the Japanese experience and later in other countries around the world. But the transition from hierarchy to teamwork requires the study and application of the principles of team style management.

This program will provide you with proven methodologies for enhancing your team leadership skills and utilizing them in building a high performance team. It will guide you toward effective strategies for motivating your team as well as dealing with the always present elements of conflict.

Finally, participants will spend time making action plans for what they want to change when they get back to their own environment.
