Centrifugal Gas Compressor (Operation, Control, Start Up, Shutdown, Maintenance and Troubleshooting)

Introduction

This course uses dynamic simulation models to give a practical introduction to centrifugal gas compressors and their operation in process plants. Key topics covered in the course include compressor performance and selection, instrumentation and control, surge protection and compressor operation. Case studies will be used and participants will be encouraged to solve problems for themselves.

Objectives

On completion of this course the Participants will learn about:

    • Maintenance and troubleshooting
    • Have an understanding of the different types of pumps.
    • Be able to operate pumps as close as possible to the design efficiency.
    • Will be able to monitor pump efficiency, availability and reliability.
    • Have learned about operation and maintenance strategies.
    • Be able to troubleshoot pump problems.
    • A practical introduction to centrifugal gas compressors
    • About control and operation parameters in detail through dynamic simulators
    • A basic overview of the main principles of compressor design and; of how easy, or difficult, it is to slip into abnormal operating conditions
    • An introduction to the use of dynamic simulation and the effect on a compressor of changes in pressures, temperatures, and compositions

Training Methodology

This is an interactive course. There will be open question and answer sessions, regular group exercises and activities, videos, case studies and presentations on best practice. Participants will have the opportunity to share with the facilitator and other participants on what works well and not so well for them, as well as work on issues from their own organizations.

Who Should Attend?

  • Engineers with little previous knowledge of compressors and who are involved in the design, control, operation or commissioning of process plants.
  • chemical, mechanical, instrumentation and process engineers
  • process plant operation and supervisory staff
  • design engineers wanting to learn about the operation and control of compressors as part of a process plant
