Lean Architecture

Introduction

This highly participative Lean Architecture training course presents the delegates with the important role of reducing the architectural “waste” must play in the development of cities and in improving the quality of life of their citizens and dwellers. As the new challenges of urban development, as well as the new practices show the world of the future will be built around “lean cities”. The concept of lean is defined as creating maximum value for the customer with minimum waste (in terms of wasted time, unnecessary transportation, overproduction, defects, inventories, etc.), and now in modern times urban planners, architects and decision makers in the cities are extrapolating this concept to cities, a powerful philosophy that helps build smart cities, one which we could call “lean cities”-the ones that generate the maximum value with the minimum waste, thus improving quality of life and contributing to sustainable growth.

Participants attending the Lean Architecture training course will develop the following competencies:

  • Ability to recognise lean city philosophy
  • Realise the wastes within the cities
  • Knowledge of better usage of the available resources
  • Experience of resources management and process optimization
  • Assurance of waste reduction within the city planning and improvement

Objectives

This Lean Architecture training course aims to enable participants to achieve the following objectives:

    • Define lean architecture principles and tools,
    • Identify appropriate locations and areas for lean architecture implementation,
    • Reduce waste within the existing city systems,
    • Building small-scale, community-cantered development and revitalization,
    • Lean project planning and design approach framework.

Training Methodology

The Lean Architecture training course will combine presentations with interactive practical exercises, supported by video materials, activities and case studies where the principles and practices of lean architecture are presented and developed into lean urbanism and lean city practices. The seminars will use the most up-to-date presentation and interactive methods focusing on problem identification in the thematic area, and work of the participants on finding solutions, or ways to solve the identified problems through the discussion of practical examples and tasks.
